I had a request from Patti in Aztec, New Mexico for a “purple stone” set in a sterling silver ring. Normally I make this ring with a blue turquoise, but with this inquiry, Sugilite seemed like a ideal alternative.
Some specimens may be a vivid purple and often varies from lavender to plum in color and may exhibit a dark matrix. It is a natural gemstone (South Africa-major source) and is sometimes thought of as “purple turquoise”, even though the two gems are unrelated.
